#whywewearblack [[MY HONEST OPINION]]
Hello everyone, so this will be my honest opinion on the why we wear black movement at the 2018 Golden Globes.
There has been a lot if mixed feelings in accordance to the #whyweblack at the 2018 Golden Globes. Some have said that it is a wonderful and much need action while there are others who say that this movement is meaningless filled with empty promises because there were people that still worked with those who have been accused of sexual assault and even some that have been accused were even nominated. There was also an imbalance in the opinion of men on the issue of sexual misconduct.
In case you haven't heard about the #whywewearblack movement, it was an action of solidarity where the attendees of the Golden Globes wore black to support those who have been sexually assaulted and to bring attention to the Times Up fund, a legal defense fund to give representation to those who have been sexually harassed as well as champion gender equality. So far $16 million have been collected.
So now comes my opinion, I do support the #whywewearblack movement for all the obvious reasons. It has shun light on a very serious issue to everyone around the world and that a step in the right direction. It also brought attention to the Time's Up fund that will help many victims. It is a small first step, giving support to those who felt alone in this issue. As of late, sexual misconduct have exposed for the best of reasons because this empowered victims everywhere to stand up to their abusers and share their stories. That is the kind of influence Hollywood has. Given that, these actors can do so much more to make a change for the better. Donating money and wearing black in solidarity is definitely one of them but so is not working with known abusers, not nominating those very abusers and also take action and help convict the abuser. That will show these abusers and the world that sexual assault is not a small matter or something that can be swept under the rug. It can act as a warning to those with sinister minds. It can empower and give confidence to women who feel threatened in the workplace. Other than that more male actors should have been asked about this issue instead of just the females because change stems from the cooperation of every individual. I hope that the actors and everyone else in this field will grasp their social responsibility and use their immense influence to stop sexual assault in the workplace in their own fields as well as everywhere else.
You can donate to the Time's Up fund here
That is all from me. Well that was some quite heavy stuff so please let me know in the comments what you think. Also please correct me if I have something wrong
All the love,
Kyrisha
